I have absolutely no memory of learning the goober peas song, but somehow I did, probably from my mother, who was interested in the Civil War, anything military, and anything southern. For those who don't know, goobers are boiled peanuts. Our own Goober doesn't look much like a peanut, but I've been singing him this song:
Sitting by the roadside on a summer's day
Chatting with my mess-mates, passing time away
Lying in the shadows underneath the trees
Goodness, how delicious, eating goober peas.
Peas, peas, peas, peas
Eating goober peas
Goodness, how delicious,
Eating goober peas.
